Outpost 51 Alien Museum, the UFO- and Area 51-themed attraction in Boulder City, is closing. Independent genre-film studio Plan 10 Pictures is taking over the space, with plans to run classes, studio tours, and shooting space out of it, according to a Plan 10 Pictures announcement.
It’s a strange-but-fitting handoff, breeders. One alien-and-Roswell shrine closes its doors in Boulder City, and in walks a scrappy local horror studio that’s spent years making the kind of B-movie schlock Outpost 51’s exhibits could’ve inspired. Feels less like a closure and more like the building changing costumes.
What Is Plan 10 Pictures?
Plan 10 Pictures is an independent horror and genre film production company based in Boulder City, Nevada. It’s the outfit expanding into the former Outpost 51 Alien Museum space to offer classes, studio tours, and shooting space.
Their name is a wink at Ed Wood’s Plan 9 from Outer Space — appropriate company for a studio setting up shop in a former alien museum. Plan 10’s catalog leans low-budget and unabashedly genre: titles like Las Vegas Frankenstein, Nameless, Hello, My Name Is Gacy, and Teddy Told Me To, sold on Blu-ray and DVD through their own store and streaming on Tubi. A proper physical space with room for classes and tours is a real step up from garage-and-guerrilla production.
The studio’s latest, Return to Shadow Valley, just premiered at the Sin City Horror Fest, the annual Las Vegas genre-film festival.
What Was Outpost 51 Alien Museum?
Outpost 51 Alien Museum was a UFO- and Area 51-themed attraction in Boulder City, built and designed by special-effects artist Tom Devlin — the same owner behind neighboring Tom Devlin’s Monster Museum. Rather than leaning on generic sci-fi tropes, it framed its displays around specific, well-known cases: life-size replicas of the alleged Roswell Incident bodies and scale models of both the Roswell and Kingman, Arizona crash sites, alongside looping footage from History Channel’s Ancient Aliens.
It made for an unlikely but solid detour on the way to Hoover Dam, paired with a stop at Devlin’s Monster Museum down the road. That stretch of Boulder City has quietly built up a real little genre-tourism cluster — and now it’s picking up a production studio to go with the museums.
When Will Plan 10 Pictures Open the Space?
No public opening date has been announced yet for the classes, studio tours, or shooting-space bookings. I’ll update this post once Plan 10 Pictures shares specifics.

Update: Outpost 51 Is Relocating to Las Vegas
Tom Devlin has since posted a video update with more on where the Outpost 51 collection is headed. According to Devlin, the museum has been acquired by another company and is expected to reopen in Las Vegas in approximately January. He also mentioned that Tom Devlin’s Monster Museum will eventually offer a combo ticket bundling admission with a tour of the Plan 10 Pictures studio next door.
No word yet on the new ownership group, a Las Vegas address, or a firm date — I’ll update again once those details are confirmed.
