Breeders, here’s a premise even I can respect: six designers, one condemned Ohio mansion, thirty-one days of cohabitation with whatever’s still walking its halls, and $50,000 on the table. That’s the pitch for HGTV’s newest competition series, and one of the six competitors is a familiar face from right here in Las Vegas.
What Is HGTV’s ‘A Very Haunted Renovation’?
‘A Very Haunted Renovation’ premieres Tuesday, September 15, 2026 at 8/7c on HGTV, with new episodes streaming on HBO Max starting the following day. The six-episode season sends six designers to live inside Bihl Manor, a deteriorating Victorian mansion in Fremont, Ohio, while they compete to renovate it top to bottom. Weekly elimination challenges whittle the field down until one designer walks away with a $50,000 cash prize.
Actress Anna Camp hosts. Designer Michel Smith Boyd mentors the contestants and evaluates their work alongside a rotating judges’ panel that includes paranormal investigator Jack Osbourne, ‘American Horror Story’ actor Billy Porter, Elvira herself (Cassandra Peterson), horror director Eli Roth, ‘Ouija: Origin of Evil’ actress Lulu Wilson, and production designer Hannah Beachler. The series premiere pits two three-designer teams against each other in a bedroom makeover inspired by the manor’s resident ghosts.
The six designers competing are Patrick Peel, SK Stokes Kennedy, John Ryan, Bershan Shaw, Logan Wright, and Diana Vogel.
Bihl Manor: The House Doing the Haunting
Bihl Manor was built by Jerome Bihl in the 1890s (some property records list 1912), a five-bedroom, four-bathroom Victorian that sat unoccupied and falling apart before HGTV picked it as this season’s project. It sold for $105,000 in July 2022. The manor’s own promotional material claims a different flavor of haunting on every floor: the basement is said to host two entities nicknamed ‘The Biter’ and ‘The Scratcher,’ credited with four bites and four scratches on visitors over the years. The first floor — particularly a room called ‘Daisy’s Room’ — reportedly produces disembodied voices, a rocking chair that moves on its own, and phantom footsteps. Upstairs, visitors have reported a red-haired boy in the attic and shadow figures in the hallways. The haunting is generally attributed to Lizzie and Alvie Bihl, said to be among the home’s earliest occupants — their story is the direct inspiration for the season premiere’s bedroom-design challenge.
Who Is Patrick Peel, the Las Vegas Designer on the Cast?
Patrick Peel works as a Senior Producer and Designer at MC&A, a Las Vegas event production company, where he specializes in large-scale, experiential event design — décor, lighting, props, and entertainment built to work together rather than as separate line items. He holds a BA in Performance and Choreography and an AA in Business Management, both from San Francisco State University, and spent years as a professional dancer before moving into design; he’s also recently performed in a Las Vegas production of ‘Kinky Boots’ as a dancing drag queen. Peel has served as president of the Las Vegas chapter of the International Live Events Association (ILEA) and taught design and production at The International School of Hospitality. His work has been recognized by Special Events Magazine, ILEA, Luxury Magazine, and the Las Vegas and Dallas World Market Design Centers, and he’s designed events for the El Cortez Hotel and Casino. More recently, his event work has focused on inclusive wedding celebrations built around clients’ own cultural backgrounds. His stated design philosophy, for what it’s worth from a man who just spent a month renovating a mansion two entities are allegedly biting and scratching people in: ‘Love what you do, put your heart into it and you will be rewarded.’
Peel told FOX5 Las Vegas he didn’t know Bihl Manor was a real haunted house until partway through casting, and he didn’t find out the cast would be living inside it during the renovation until later still. Filming ran under a no-talking rule — the crew was ‘on ice’ except when actively working, meaning the contestants’ twelve-hour filming days were the only chance they had to get to know each other. Peel says he came home from the shoot having brought something with him: an unexplained smell that lingered in one room of his house and an unexplained scratch on his thigh with no corresponding injury on set. He burned palo santo and sage to clear it out. He is not, by his own account, someone who likes scary or dark — he says the $50,000 prize is what got him through the door.

‘A Very Haunted Renovation’ airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on HGTV, with each episode landing on HBO Max the next day.
